Oh, he’s back, baby! The Q*bert that we all know and love… or at least love to hate. This game is challenging! It’s hard to put down once you get going. Ah, the addictive joy of a simple to learn, hard to master game.
A bit more down to business now…
Q*bert fans, this is your blog. Really. It’s for you. And the new iPhone/iPod Touch Q*bert game, that’s for you too. So help us help you. Tell us what you think by commenting or posting as a guest. We have only just begun and plan to release many updates for improvements/enhancements. We want to make an awesome game and your input could put us over that edge.
Here’s what we have so far:
Arcade Mode: We really want to honor the original Q*bert game, so there’s an Arcade mode that is super authentic. The graphics are true to the retro style. The code is based on the original code so Q*bert and the other characters all move the same way they did in the real deal back in the 80s. Even the help text is from the original Q*bert (well, the first section of it is).
Modern Mode: We’ve added another mode called “Modern” that also stays true to the original Q*bert programming, but has updated graphics for a smoother, polished Q*bert.
New Maps in progress: Why should Q*bert always be on a pyramid? Soon he’ll get to jump on all kinds of different cube constructions. This update is already in the works. The domestic release will have new maps.
Themes in Progress: We are already working on new Q*bert themes too. I’ll just say it — Q*bert is an orange ball with legs and a funny nose and, well, he’d like to accessorize like the rest of us. So, he’ll soon be sporting a variety of outfits and jump on cubes in a variety of styles. Your votes will determine the order of the planned themes, so be sure to vote! We want your input on new themes for the future too. The domestic release will have the first of the new themes included.
What do you think so far?

Hello !
I’m very disapointed by The gameplay. I played this game when I was a child. But The “pad” is horrible to move properly. Please do something :)
kind regards
Vincent
Hi Vincent. We want to make this game great, so please tell me more so we can address the problem.
Here’s how we made the touch controls work: you can swipe your finger anywhere on the screen to make Q*bert jump in the direction that your finger is swiping.
It sounds like maybe you are trying to control it by pushing the little joystick graphic around. While technically that can work, I agree that it would be quite tricky.
If you swipe anywhere on screen as intended, do you like the controls that way?
Maybe we were not clear enough in the instructions. Or, tell me if you were controlling it as I’ve described but still don’t like it.
Ideas for improvement are very welcome.
I was very excited to see q*bert for the iPhone as I used to play this game a lot when I was young. I think that you guys have done a great job with the interface, and the game play is very smooth.
Maybe we could see under water q*bert one day? In the mean time I look forward to the planned updates!!
Nice! I love the idea of underwater Q*bert. That is so going on the list.
Needs a fuller screen mode. Maybe remove the d pad and background theme and have a full screen portrait mode. It really needs this.
